Lila Blog Feature/Collaboration!

Picture 15One of my favorite blogs to follow these days is that of my dear friend Frances.  Frances is a friend from my college days in Colorado and she's one of those interesting, talented, beautiful people who are so fun to be around.  These days Frances is making her stand in Colorado with her husband Thad.  Her blog Lila beautifully chronicles her struggles and successes in a life centered around her yoga practice, delicious healthy food, creativity, and wellness.   I have learned so much from her, and admire her discipline and joy. Why am I telling you all of this you ask?  Well, recently Frances and I teamed up and Roots & Wings Jewelry is now sponsoring Lilablog!  She wrote a beautiful post introducing me to her readers, which made my week.  Check it out here, and be sure to check out the rest of her posts and follow her!  You won't be dissapointed.

Friday Evening Musings

_MG_9352As the new year begins I've slowly been getting back into the swing of things with work.  To be entirely honest, it hasn't been an easy transition.  The time I took off after the holiday rush was much needed, and in retrospect was some of the first "time off" I've given myself since I quit my day job and took up working for myself full time. Balance is something that has long been important to (and often eluded) me and the more I connect with other creative-self-employed-types, the more I see that finding balance is one of the biggest challenges of this lifestyle.  I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist workaholic (something I didn't know about myself until recently-it's crazy the things we keep from even ourselves) and I have struggled to create a sense of healthy structure and balance between my work and every day life.

Living and working in the same space, not to mention having a partner who is also self-employed, makes this extra challenging.  There's just no clear line between "work time" and "non work time" and I struggle to find a sense of having done "enough" each day, and to create a sense of accomplishment for myself.  Unlike most jobs and school there isn't someone else to give me a pat on the back, to hand out a grade, a raise, or a "job well done."  It's just me, and it turns out I'm a pretty demanding boss most of the time.

So, all of this is to say, when I found myself a bit resistant to jumping headlong back into work this week I decided, in the name of balance, to try to be ok with that.  To allow it to be what it is, and not be so hard on myself.  I am trying to see it all as a process, something I will likely continue to struggle with and learn from for years to come.

How do you create balance in your life?  Especially if you work for yourself, what have you learned while striving to find it?

I will leave you with a few sneak peek photos from our Lake Quinault trip (which was amazing!!) as well as a lovely hike with a friend today.  More photos from our trip to come soon!

Happy friday friends!

Etsy Shop Vacation

I have decided, after much thought, to close my Etsy shop for a few days.  I have been absolutely swamped with orders for the holidays in the last few weeks which has been humbling and exhausting and so so exciting!  By closing my shop I will give myself the time to catch up on holiday orders and take a few much needed days off;)  I will be closed Dec. 16th-19th and re-open on the 20th.  I'm sorry for any inconvenience, and I hope you come back by my shop when I re-open! I have recently fallen in love with this blog which I found on this blog (oh blogs:).  Most of her photos on rose & crown are film and they are exquisite.  The writing is phenomenal as well.

my week in photos

_MG_8518Good evening friends.  I've been a bit more silent than I'd like in this space (and this one too!)  I have a good reason though; this little business of mine seems to have taken on a life of its own, and I have been swamped with orders for the holidays.  My days have been spent in our home, pacing from the kitchen to my work space as I make a cup of tea and grab a snack between forming, hammering and assembling my creations. It hasn't all been work though;  I managed to get out for a beautiful evening walk to the jetty with my dear, funny friend Ariel.  I also spent an afternoon making Christmas stockings for The Photographer and I (ssshhh, don't tell him;) with my mother, which was too much fun!

All in all it's been a good week, and I am still dumbstruck sometimes when I realize that I am doing what I love for a living.  On a completely separate note, The Photographer is coming home from his world travels really soon, and I am ecstatic about this!  I miss him quite a bit.  I hope you had a great week dear ones:)  XO.
